When you first land in Tokyo, where should you go?
I ran straight to Asakusa without hesitation.
There, you’ll see the Kaminarimon Gate with its huge red lantern. Wow… It’s half people, half air, so it can be a bit overwhelming at first.
But the moment you smell the dango (sweet rice cakes) and senbei (rice crackers) sold along Nakamise-dori, the street that stretches from the entrance to the temple, you realize, “Ah, I’m really in Japan!”
I even tried drawing an omikuji (fortune-telling), but I was so nervous it might turn out bad.
Thankfully, it turned out good, so I started my trip in a good mood!
But if Asakusa is “old Japan,” then Shibuya is truly the “city of the future.”
Have you been up to the Shibuya Sky Observatory, which is said to be the hottest spot these days?
Oh my, the whole of Tokyo sparkles like a jewel beneath my feet… The wind was so strong that my hair was disheveled, but I couldn’t keep my mouth shut.
Looking down from above at the famous X-shaped crosswalk, people swarming like ants, it felt like watching a computer game. It was truly bizarre.
Oh, if you’re going to go here, definitely make a reservation in Korea!
Otherwise, you might end up crying at the entrance.
When I started to tire of all that hustle and bustle, I snuck away to the forest path at Meiji Shrine.
It’s only one stop from Shibuya, but it’s incredibly quiet.
Walking among the giant trees, the air feels completely different.
After a bit of relaxation, I head to the neighboring Harajuku. A world of colorful crepes and quirky clothes unfolds before me. This “cold and hot” charm is truly the essence of Tokyo.
Oh, I’ve been to Akihabara, the mecca of nerds, but I don’t know much about anime.
But seeing all the buildings flashing and filled with action figures made me dazzle.
It was a truly eye-opening experience, thinking, “Wow, there’s a world like this out there!”
And when I go to Ginza on the weekend, the streets are blocked off and people walk right through them. Walking confidently down the street, I feel like I’m the main character in a movie.
I lost track of time just watching these stylish people.
Tokyo truly seems like a city that never sleeps.
Isn’t it exciting to constantly discover new things in Tokyo?
Just hearing about it makes you want to grab your passport, doesn’t it? Tokyo is truly full of stories in every alley. I really hope you visit!
