When I returned from Buenos Aires, my heart raced when they weighed my suitcase at the airport.
I mean, isn’t the entire city like a giant shopping mall?
I’ll tell you the real, “real” review of what I packed there.
The first thing that caught my eye was the leather!
Wow, everyone, even the skin of Argentine cattle is a work of art.
I happened to stumble upon a leather shop on the street and tried on a jacket, and boy… I thought silk was the most comfortable thing on the body.
In Korea, this quality would be ridiculously expensive, but here, with the Blue Dollar, I couldn’t help but exclaim, “Oh my, I have to get this!”
I ended up buying a matching bag and belt. (My bank account is crying, but my shoulders are proud!)
And the mate tea set, the soulmate of Argentinians! This is a real treat.
You see everyone on the street carrying a wooden cup called Donggu?
It looked so hip, so I bought one myself. The cup shape is beautiful, and the silver straw (called a bonbilla) is a work of art.
But since it’s a wooden cup, it was a bit tricky to get used to at first.
I heard it would get moldy otherwise, so I’ve been taking good care of it since I came back to Korea.
Sometimes, when I’m drinking mate at home, I feel like I’m standing on the streets of Buenos Aires again.
Oh, and the Havana alfajores, which I absolutely can’t forget! I bought these as a gift, and I almost ate them all on the plane.
They’re chocolate cookies stuffed with a devilish jam called “dulce de leche.” One bite sends your blood sugar levels soaring, making you feel incredibly happy. When I shared them with my coworkers, they all went crazy, asking, “Where did you get this?”
The yellow box makes it look so luxurious!
Finally, the flower of pharmacy shopping: rosehip oil! I wondered why South American women have such beautiful skin, and it seems to be thanks to this oil.
This is a natural oil from Patagonia, and the price was so reasonable that I bought a bunch as gifts for my friends.
I was worried it might explode in my suitcase because it was in a glass bottle, so I wrapped it tightly in my socks and underwear before I brought it home. Luckily, it arrived safely.
Buenos Aires is a place where you can literally spend the whole day shopping.
If you ever go back, be sure to bring an extra empty suitcase. You’ll regret it if you don’t listen to me.
