How to set up Kia smart regeneration system, how to disable and reset smart regeneration system

Smart regenerative system
When coasting, this function automatically controls the regenerative braking stage according to the road slope and the driving conditions of the vehicle ahead. This is a convenient function that minimizes unnecessary brake and accelerator pedal operation, thereby increasing energy efficiency and reducing driver fatigue.

Note
Coastal driving refers to driving using inertia without consuming power by taking your foot off the brake/accelerator pedal while driving.

Smart regenerative system settings

How to operate
When you select Settings → Vehicle → Eco-car → Smart regenerative braking in the infotainment system or pull the right paddle shift lever for more than 1 second, the smart regenerative system (automatic regenerative braking amount change function) is activated and the regenerative braking amount displayed in stages on the cluster changes to the ‘AUTO’ indicator.
Operating conditions
When the smart regenerative system is activated, the word ‘AUTO’ is displayed on the cluster. When the word ‘AUTO’ is displayed and the vehicle speed is 12 km/h or more and one of the following conditions is met, the regenerative braking stage is automatically controlled. When the downhill road gradient changes
When the distance between you and the vehicle in front decreases or increases
When the speed of the vehicle in front decreases or increases
When there is a speed camera in front while driving on a highway (Operates when the navigation linkage setting of the infotainment system is selected. The color of the lightning icon changes.)
Operation ready
The cluster displays the word ‘AUTO’ in white for the regenerative braking stage.
Operation
When the front radar detects the vehicle in front, the word ‘AUTO’ is displayed in green. The regenerative braking stage is automatically controlled according to the driving conditions of the vehicle in front, and the automatically changed regenerative braking stage is displayed with an arrow. However, when you press the brake pedal while the system is operating, the current regenerative braking stage does not increase, and the function is temporarily deactivated when you press the accelerator pedal.
Recognition sensor
Front radar

Please refer to the figure for the detailed location of the recognition sensor.

The smart regeneration system is a function that uses the distance detection sensor (front radar). If snow, rain, or foreign substances get on the sensor cover or sensor, the sensor’s detection performance will deteriorate, causing the smart regeneration system to be temporarily deactivated and may not operate properly until it is deactivated. Always keep it clean.

Smart regenerative braking deceleration pattern

It detects vehicles ahead and speed cameras through linkage with the map and adjusts the regenerative braking amount to help drivers comply with the speed limit. The indicator light turns on when a vehicle ahead and speed camera are detected. You can select/deactivate it in the infotainment system’s Settings → Vehicle → Eco-car → Smart regenerative braking deceleration pattern → Navigation linkage.
Adjust the smart regenerative braking pattern according to the driver’s deceleration tendency (strong/normal/soft) in the infotainment system’s Settings → Vehicle → Eco-car → Smart regenerative braking deceleration pattern.
The regenerative braking amount adjustment function linked to the speed camera operates on highways/urban highways. Disabling the Smart Regeneration System
Disabling manually
Select Settings → Vehicle → Eco-Car → Smart Regeneration Braking in the infotainment system or pull the right paddle shift lever for about 1 second or more.

Automatically disabling temporarily
When shifting to “N” (Neutral), “R” (Reverse), or “P” (Parking)
When the smart cruise control is operating
When the vehicle stability control device (ESC)/ABS is operating
When the motor and battery are in high/low temperature or there is a problem with the battery or reducer
When the SOC (High Voltage Battery Charge) is high
Caution
When the smart regeneration system is automatically disabling, monitor the road conditions ahead and, if necessary, press the brake pedal to directly control the vehicle speed.

Resetting the smart regeneration system
When you want to use the smart regeneration system again while driving, select Settings → Vehicle → Eco-Car → Smart Regeneration Braking in the infotainment system or pull the right paddle shift lever for about 1 second or more. The word ‘AUTO’ will be displayed again in the regeneration braking stage of the cluster.

Setting the basic stage of the smart regeneration system
With the smart regeneration system ON, you can set the basic stage of the smart regeneration by pulling the paddle shift lever briefly. The automatic regeneration braking stage adjustment by the smart regeneration system operates beyond the set basic stage.
