Information on Kia electric vehicle drive (high voltage) battery (lithium ion battery)

Drive (High Voltage) Battery (Lithium Ion Battery)

Even if the vehicle is not driven, the drive (high voltage) battery capacity may gradually decrease.

If the vehicle is stored at the highest/lowest temperature, the drive (high voltage) battery capacity may decrease.

Even if the charge amount is the same, the driving distance or output may change depending on the driving conditions (outside temperature, etc.). Driving at high speeds or uphill may consume more power than usual for the drive (high voltage) battery, which may shorten the driving distance.

When using the cooling/heating function, the driving distance is shortened because the power of the drive (high voltage) battery is used. Maintain the appropriate temperature when using the cooling/heating function.

The drive (high voltage) battery naturally deteriorates over the period of vehicle use, which reduces the driving distance.

If the charge amount and driving distance continue to decrease, have it inspected by your own service center or a service partner.

If the vehicle is not used for a long period of time, charge the traction (high voltage) battery about once every 3 months to prevent it from discharging. Also, if the charge is insufficient, charge it immediately and store the vehicle.

Slow charging is recommended to maintain the optimal battery condition. When the battery charge is below 20%, charging it to 100% will maintain the optimal battery performance. (Recommended at least once a month)

Depending on the charging status of the traction (high voltage) battery (charger condition, outside temperature, battery temperature, etc.), the charging power value displayed on the charge level indicator may decrease. When the traction (high voltage) battery is charged to a certain amount, the current is gradually reduced for battery life or safety reasons and then fully charged.

Caution

Be sure to use the designated charger to charge the traction (high voltage) battery. Using a different charger may affect the vehicle’s performance and durability.

Do not allow the traction battery charge gauge to drop below 10%. If the vehicle is stored for a long period of time with insufficient charge, the battery may be damaged or the battery may need to be replaced depending on the state of capacity reduction.

If the vehicle is involved in a collision that causes a significant impact, have the battery connection status checked by the company’s direct service center or a service partner.

Using the V2L function may reduce the driving distance due to the use of high-voltage battery energy, and repeated use may cause the high-voltage battery’s life to decrease.
